Something Old & Something New - Events this week!

Hello Honors students,

Only about a week left of regular classes! I hope your semester is wrapping up nicely.

Our events for this semester are wrapping up as well and I want to make sure you don't miss out on some really awesome things when you are taking a break from studying!

On Thursday, April 14th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. here at The Honors College (511 W. Forest Ave) will be our annual picnic which will also serve as an Open House for the new building! We will have food as well as some really fun outdoor games including cornhole as well as have face painting! If you plan to attend this always awesome event, please RSVP here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WP7PW5Y

So that was an example of an "old" event that has become a really great tradition for the Honors College. This upcoming Saturday, April 16th from 8:00-11:00 p.m., we are having the first ever Honors formal dance in our building!

There will be a DJ and karaoke as well as snacks and refreshments! Our theme is masquerade and the attire is semi-formal! Please feel free to bring a guest with you to dance the night away and fill out this RSVP survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6YWWD33 ! The survey is very important as we will be having a small personalized keepsake item for you if you fill it out!

One more really awesome thing happening at this event for those students and guests who aren't as into dancing is a chance to win Battle of the Bands through the RockBand system! Special thanks to my boyfriend for letting us borrow his equipment to be able to do this!

These events are going to be a great time and we can't wait to see you there!

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and as always, soar higher!

Kaylee

P.S. If you haven't filled out this end-of-the year Commuter/event survey, please take a quick minute to do so, it is greatly appreciated!  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PF7QQ68

In other news, we want to hear your feedback on this years events

As the end of the year is approaching, we are starting to think about event planning in the upcoming academic year and we would appreciate if you could take a quick moment and fill out this brief survey to provide us with some information that would help us create/update events for you: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PF7QQ68

Scholarship Opportunity - Calling all Commuters!

Hello!

I hope you had a great weekend! Less than 4 weeks till this semester is over! We can do it!

I just wanted to take a minute and inform you of an awesome opportunity to get a little extra cash! There is a scholarship, through Campus Life, just for commuter students. It is called The Connelly Scholarship for Commuter Students, named after a alumnus of EMU. This scholarship is open to undergraduate commuter students enrolled at least half time, who will commit to seek active involvement on campus in the upcoming year.

Check out the application here!

If you have any questions regarding the scholarship, feel free to email me (kbrow107@emich.edu) or Kate Curley (campuslife@emich.edu) who is in charge of this scholarship.

It is offered on a rolling basis as funds are available and the application is super easy to complete! It's a great incentive to get more involved on campus!

I hope you take the chance to apply! A good way to find out about scholarships as well as other Honors updates is by following us on twitter (@EMUHonors)

Keep on Soaring Higher!

Annual Honors College Lock-in: Next Friday!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Welcome back from break, who is loving the snow? (I'm not but that's besides the point. Friendly reminder to take it slow in ice and snow!)

The point is that the annual Honors College Lock-In is a week from Friday! We have a lot of really awesome things planned for you all to change things up!

Before I get into that though, logistics! It's Friday, March 11th here at the Honors College (511 W. Forrest Ave) from 6:30 p.m. -10:00 p.m. with registration and icebreakers starting at 6:00 p.m.

Please RSVP here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C2H5Y59

The theme of the lock-in this year is THROWBACK TO THE 90s so feel free to dress in your best 90s outfit while dancing to our 90s hits party (yes, you can request a song). Here are some ideas:

To stick with the theme, we are going to be showing 90s kids favorite sitcoms with trivia for prizes (if you're like me and love Friends, you'll love this)!

We are going to be having tye-dye as well! Check out some of these awesome things you can bring to make besides just t-shirts (but who doesn't love a good tye dye t-shirt?), just don't forget to bring something with you to dye!

We are going to be having a place to take photo booth like photos with props to create some memories with your friends and fellow Honors peers! Also other games, activities to play! Including interactive Trivia, adult coloring and cards!

Last but definitely not least, FOOD. We are going to be having food at this event and of course we have to have dessert after food, so there will be an Ice Cream Sundae Bar. Just looking at this picture makes me want ice cream now.

If you need any other reason to attend, please email me! It's going to be a great time and we can't wait to see you there! Invite your friends and RSVP today!

Soar Higher,

Kaylee
